View Hidden Text on a Hacked Website
November 27, 2009
Hackers can use CSS styling or JavaScript to hide text, usually spam links, which they have inserted into your web pages. When the web page is viewed in a web browser the hidden text is not normally visible. Search engines normally ignore styling and scripting so that they will see the hidden text. You can view the hidden text by looking at source code of the web page in your web browser. To view the hidden content without having to scour the source code you can use the WAVE toolbar for the Firefox web browser. Once the toolbar has been installed, select the "Text-only" view and you will see the text of the web page without any styling or scripting.
